The survey is part of a larger project to understand how the public engages with arts, culture, and heritage in Brant Region. By capturing the preferences, attendance patterns, and barriers experienced by residents, we aim to improve cultural offerings and increase public participation.
How do you define “cultural activities”?
We consider “cultural activities” as comprising a range of arts, culture, and heritage experiences, such as attending theatre performances, art exhibits, music festivals, and heritage events; visiting museums; participating in community arts programs; engaging in cultural traditions or local festivals; and whatever else the public determines as contributing to culture.
Who is conducting this survey?
The survey is organized by Grand Culture, in partnership with local cultural organizations, to help guide the development and promotion of cultural experiences in Brant Region.
What will this survey cover?
The survey will ask about your attendance at cultural events, types of activities you enjoy, barriers to participation, and any suggestions you may have for improving the region’s cultural offerings.
Who is the target audience for the survey?
All residents of Brant Region are encouraged to participate. We aim to capture diverse perspectives across demographics, including age, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
How will this survey information be used?
Your responses will be analyzed alongside one-on-one interviews and participant observation data to create a comprehensive review of public engagement. This review will guide cultural organizations in Brant Region in tailoring their programs to better serve community needs and interests.
What methods are being used in addition to the survey?
Aside from the survey as the principal data-collection method, this project will leverage one-on-one interviews with a broad cross-section of the community for deeper insights, as well as participant observation at local cultural events to capture real-time engagement.
What is participant observation, and why is it part of this project?
Participant observation involves attending cultural events and taking notes on public interactions and engagement levels. This allows us to see firsthand how people participate in cultural activities, adding a real-time element to our data.
